The Stolen Generations

The aboriginal people’s connection with the earth is paramount to their beliefs as they see the earth as their mother and that they belong completely to it.

With the hope to ‘wipe out’ all the indigenous people of Australia, children of aboriginal descent were stolen at birth and placed in white households & institutions, where their identities were stripped from them and their native language forbidden. Labelled "half caste," a term still used to dehumanise and derogate mixed-race individuals, these children were highly vulnerable due to the belief that their lighter complexion made them more easily assimilable into the white community.
